Voluntary Pre-K Program (VPK)

Orlando Day Nursery participates in the Florida Voluntary Prekindergarten Program. The free, state-funded program provides 540 hours (3hours a day for the 180 days of the school year) to all children who are four years old on or before September 1st. VPK gives each child an opportunity to perform better in school and throughout life with quality programs that include age-appropriate curricula with a strong emphasis on early literacy skills, accountability, manageable class sizes and qualified instructors.

ODN offers children who are enrolled in this program 4.5 hours of free education for 180 days following Orange County Public Schools’ Calendar. Included in this program at ODN are breakfast and lunch. Children's progress is measured several times a year  using the Get Ready To Read and the Florida VPK Assessment. Children showing a need for extra help are provided services through ODN’s Bright Start program, tutoring by UCF interns, and referrals to local agencies. Our goal is for all children to be ready for kindergarten.
The curriculum used at ODN follows the latest Florida Early Learning and Developmental Standards for Four-Year-Olds. A link
to these standards is available on our website in the “Links” page.

NEW in AUGUST 2016: One multi-age (3 to 5) VPK classroom will incorporate Montessori methods, including manipulatives and hands-on learning.
